Sports Authority opened a sporting goods store at Tikahtnu Commons on May 9. The national retail chain’s new 52,000-square-foot store joins Tikahtnu Commons anchor tenants Target, Kohl’s and Lowe’s.
Sports Authority operates more than 450 sporting goods stores in 45 states, including four in Alaska. The chain is headquartered in Colorado.
Upcoming major store openings at Tikahtnu Commons include BestBuy, a multinational technology and entertainment retailer whose new store will open in the first week of June. Recently opened smaller shops at Tikahtnu Commons include Marble Slab Ice Cream, Fruitland Fresh, Gamestop, Great Clips, AT&T, Subway, Celebrity Nails, GNC and Sally Beauty.
Tikahtnu Commons is a regional retail and entertainment center in northeast Anchorage being developed by CIRI and its partner, Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Browman Development Co. The retail center is located on a 95-acre parcel of CIRI land acquired as a result of the Cook Inlet Land Exchange. Tikahtnu Commons is expected to include 12 to 15 major retail stores and numerous smaller stores, restaurants and other businesses. Construction of the retail center began in 2007 and is expected to last five to seven years.
