Educational Incentives for CIRI Youth

schoolNext Deadline: Tuesday, Jan. 31

Every school day counts.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. This relationship between attendance and achievement may appear early in a child’s school career. A recent study looking at young children found that absenteeism in kindergarten was associated with negative first-grade outcomes, such as greater absenteeism in subsequent years, and lower achievement in reading, math and general knowledge.

To encourage youth to attend and excel at school, CIRI conducts $100 cash prize drawings for students who maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or above and students with perfect attendance. (Perfect attendance is defined as missing no more than four classes in the reporting period.) CIRI shareholders and confirmed CIRI descendants enrolled in grades 7 through 12 are eligible to participate.

Drawings are held twice a year, in February and July. To enter, eligible youth must submit a copy of the report card for the immediately preceding semester to CIRI Shareholder Relations by 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, or 3 p.m. Friday, June 30. The report card must clearly show the minor’s name, the time period being reported on, the minor’s grades and attendance record and the name and contact information of the minor’s school.
