CIRI tourism manager wins Anchorage award

Dee Dee Kay recognized for exceptional volunteer efforts

Dee Dee Kay, CIRI Alaska Tourism Corp.’s lodge sales manager, was awarded a Heart of Anchorage Award from the Anchorage Downtown Partnership on March 27. Kay received the “Spirit of Alaska” award, which recognizes volunteers who demonstrate exceptional efforts in support of a downtown business or organization.

“I feel really fortunate because I’ve always worked for employers who understood the importance of giving back to the community and being involved,” said Kay. “The only way I could have done these things is working for a company like CIRI that allows you to give back.”

Kay serves in a wide variety of volunteer roles, including Special Olympics Alaska, the Mayor’s Charity Ball, the Alaska Travel Industry Association’s Travel Auction, the Eva Foundation and YoungLives. She is a member of Rotary International and has directed the Anchorage “Downtown” Rotary Club’s Fireside Committee for four years.

Kay serves on the board of directors of the Mat-Su Convention & Visitors Bureau and helped with the 2009 Heart of Anchorage Awards. She also serves as a greeter to new families in the Sunday School program at ChangePoint Church.

The Heart of Anchorage Award honors employees, leaders and business owners in the downtown community who demonstrate hard work and a dedication to excellence.
