After a lengthy search, Christopher P. Leichtweis has been named the new president and chief strategic officer of the North Wind Group, a wholly owned CIRI subsidiary based in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Leichtweis replaces Sylvia Medina, the founder of North Wind, who retired from the company in March. Leichtweis started in his new position July 8.
North Wind is one of the nation’s leading small businesses providing engineering, construction and environmental services to federal and state agencies and private industry. Founded in 1997, North Wind has grown to a group of companies that employs more than 300 scientific, engineering, management and professional personnel in 21 office locations throughout the country.

Leichtweis comes to North Wind from Knoxville, Tenn., where he was a senior vice president and executive officer of Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. In 1991, Leichtweis founded Safety and Ecology Corporation, which was acquired by Perma-Fix in 2011. Leichtweis previously worked for Bechtel National and Chem-Nuclear Systems, Inc. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the environmental service industry and government contracting.
