Catherine Elizabeth Atkinson, 72

Catherine Elizabeth Atkinson passed away April 6 at Keen Eye Care Assisted Living Home in Soldotna, Alaska. Mrs. Atkinson was born Feb. 12, 1942. She enjoyed fishing in the summers with friends visiting from out of state. She was a devout member and minister of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Soldotna, Alaska. Mrs. Atkinson is survived by her husband, Lloyd Atkinson; daughter, Rosemarie Ray; sister, Anna Kramer (the only sibling remaining in the Okitkun family); grandson, Trevor Ray; granddaughter and husband, Cherise and Darly Armstrong and their two children, Ava and Desmond; nephew and niece, Justin and Ruthie Baggett, and recent addition to their family, Adela; and Lloyd Atkinson’s extended family.

Geraldine Anne Helmich, 52

Geraldine Anne Helmich passed away March 20 at home in Valdez, Alaska. Ms. Helmich was born July 17, 1961, in Anchorage. Her youth was spent in Oregon and Alaska. She moved to Valdez in 1973, living first at Harborview Developmental Center and then moving into the community in 1986. She attended the Special School until it closed in the mid-90s. After living in several different group and assistance-homes, she moved into her own apartment in 2012. Ms. Helmich was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church.

Norman D. Miller Jr., 56

Norman D. Miller Jr. passed away April 10 in Anchorage. Mr. Miller was born Feb. 14, 1958, in Nome, Alaska. He attended Robert Service High School, Class of 1977, where he played varsity hockey. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved Alaska to its fullest. He was a devoted son, taking care of both his parents in the last years of their lives. Mr. Miller is survived by his brother Robert E. Miller; sisters, Antoinette LoMonaco and Leesa Van Zandt; nieces, Paula Bourdon, Michelle Parlow, Amanda Kasitok and Amberly Kasitok; and nephews, Zeth Kernan, Jordan Kernan and Devin Van Zandt.

Deirdre Ann Viera (Jacobsson), 70

Deirdre Ann Viera passed away Dec. 20, 2013, at home in Anchorage. Ms. Viera was born Aug. 12, 1943, in Bethel, Alaska. She is survived by her children, Veronica Dimascio, Anthony Viera and John R. Viera Jr.; grandchildren, Darius, Diamone, Destyne and Dustyn Dimascio and Samantha, Alexander, Christopher and Nichole Viera; great-grandchildren, Devyne and Daceon Dimascio, Jonathan Higgins III, Eliana and Michael Vargas-Viera and Dominic Bost; and siblings, Jean Hull, Frieda Bosette, June Jardine, Erica Jacobsson and John “Jake” Jacobsson.

Johnna Rae Wilhelm, 44

Johnna Rae Wilhelm passed away March 30 at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, Calif. Ms. Wilhelm was born Feb. 15, 1970, in Los Angeles, Calif. She was the owner of a family business, Accessory Powder Coating, and lived most of her life in Sacramento, Calif. Ms. Wilhelm is survived by her husband, Tim Wilhelm; and children, Cory Ekopak, Jeremy Kragel, Brandon Ekopak, Brenda Wilhelm and Jace Wilhelm.
