Through collaboration between the tribes and villages of the Kenai Peninsula and the Pratt Museum, Tamamta Katurlluta: A Gathering of Native Tradition will take place Aug. 30 through Sept. 1 in Homer, Alaska.
Held every two to three years since 1997, the event has become an important way to develop lasting relationships between communities in the region. Alaska Native artists, Elders, dancers, drummers and non-Native participants share their cultural heritage through food, music, conversation and a range of activities including the Traditional Landing Ceremony of the Qayaqs scheduled for Aug. 31 at 12 p.m.
